Quick Answer

Most Pittsboro questions come down to three things: what does it cost, how long does it take, and what will annoy me later. Below are honest answers to all three, including the parts that don't flatter us.

  • Services: faux wood blinds, wood blinds, vertical blinds, aluminum mini blinds
  • Service area: Pittsboro, Hendricks County, IN and surrounding areas
  • A restring, a new cord lock, a tilt mechanism or a dead motor battery gets handled far faster than a new order, because nothing has to be built. New custom work runs on the factory's two to five week clock.
  • Insured and bonded

Schedule Your Free In-Home Measure

We measure at three points on every opening, the head, the center and the sill, run a square check across the diagonals, and log the mounting depth. Depth is the number that decides things in Pittsboro. A drywall return in a 2010s Hidden Hills plan usually hands you plenty of it, while a Main Street opening with applied casing and a storm unit outboard sometimes hands you almost none. Both numbers get recorded per opening instead of per house.

I agree to be contacted by Pittsboro Window Treatments regarding my inquiry.

Pittsboro is the most uniform measuring job in Hendricks County, and that's exactly why people get it wrong. Of 1,441 housing units in town, 1,289 went up in 1990 or later, and 62.2 percent of everything here was built since 2000. What that buys you is a drywall return with no applied casing and generous depth, plus a reveal that started out close to square. What it hides is that the 393 houses Pittsboro built in the 1990s have now had twenty five to thirty five years to settle, and they're the ones where a three point measure changes the order. The 47 units that predate 1940 sit along Main Street and follow no rule at all. We measure every opening, because two houses on the same street here can be twenty years and one whole construction method apart.

Motorized shades need a control plan, not just a motor. Do you want a handheld remote, a wall keypad, an app, or a voice assistant through a hub? Do you want a sun sensor, or an astronomical timer that follows sunrise and sunset through the year? On a Pittsboro west wall a timed close in the late afternoon does more for the room than any manual habit ever will.

People sometimes ask why we bother with an in-home visit for two windows. It's because mounting depth, square and obstruction are things you can only confirm at the opening, and because the two window job in Pittsboro is often the one where an inch of trim decides whether an inside mount is even possible. Ten minutes on site beats a reorder every time.

Built in the Last Few Years?

Many of our Pittsboro customers moved into a house built by one of these companies. Builder blinds are usually stock sizes trimmed to fit, so if yours came with the house and never ran right, that is why. We measure the openings as built rather than off the plan.

About Pittsboro Homes

Pittsboro's median house dates to 2004. Build era shares on the parcel record run pre-1940 3.3%, 1940-1979 7.3%, 1980-1999 27.3%, 2000-2019 54.8%, 2020+ 7.4%. Median home value is $312,800. The most uniform casing condition of the five places in this batch. 82.1% of the stock is 1990 or newer, which means drywall return openings with no applied casing, generous and consistent depth, and a clean square reveal. The 47 pre-1940 units on Main Street are the exception, not a second regime. A measurer working Pittsboro is working one condition almost all day. 1990s two story production traditional; 2000s two story production traditional with arched and elliptical transoms; 2010s and 2020s Craftsman and Colonial Revival production elevations; farmhouse elevations in the rural subdivisions north and south of town; a small surviving nineteenth century. Typical opening count: A 1990s two story production house runs 16-24 openings; a 2000s two story 18-28; a 2020s Craftsman or Colonial Revival elevation 18-26.

Recent Weather Patterns

Central Indiana sits in IECC climate zone 5A, which means a real cooling load and a real heating load on the same window. NOAA's 1991-2020 normals for Indianapolis put the July average high at 85.2F, the January average high at 36.1F and the January average low at 20.9F, with the muggy season running May 25 to September 22. Overwhelmingly young. 82.1% of Pittsboro's housing was built in 1990 or later and 62.2% since 2000, all of it on former farm ground, so the canopy is the canopy the developers planted and it is between one and thirty five years old. The 47 pre-1940 units along Main Street carry the only mature trees in the town.

What Our Crew Sees in Pittsboro

Pittsboro is dominated by the modern production vocabulary because 82.1% of its stock postdates 1990. Expect half round and elliptical transoms over the front facing window on the 1990s and 2000s stock, two story foyer and great room glass, sliding patio doors, and gable end accent windows on the Craftsman elevations. Active new construction includes Hidden Hills - Legacy Series, Hidden Hills - Exclusives Series.

What We Are Running in Pittsboro Right Now

Both offers apply to work quoted and ordered while they are posted here. Ask about them at the in-home measure and we will put the discount on the written quote before you decide anything.

Offer 1

$500 Off Your First Exterior Screen, Plus a Free Motorization Upgrade

Take $500 off your first exterior screen and we will add the motorization upgrade at no charge. Exterior screens stop solar heat outside the glass, which is the only place you can stop it before it is already in the room, and a motor is the difference between using one and forgetting it.

Applies to a first exterior screen. Ask at the measure so the discount is on the written quote before you order. Motorized product runs on batteries that need replacing, about a year on Hunter Douglas PowerView.

Offer 2

Free Motorization Upgrade on Select Interior Shades

Pick from the qualifying interior shade lines and the motorization upgrade is free. It is worth most on the openings you would otherwise leave alone: tall great room glass, anything above a stair, and the west windows nobody remembers to close by four.

Select interior shade lines only. We will tell you at the measure which of your openings qualify. Batteries are a real running cost and are not included.

Inspection, Repair, and Replacement

From one room to a whole house, Pittsboro Window Treatments measures every opening, orders it custom, and installs it with the same crew that took the measurements.

Faux Wood Blinds in Pittsboro

Closed slats aren't a dark room. Light passes through the route holes the ladder string runs in, plus the edges of any inside mount, so a Pittsboro bedroom that needs genuine darkness wants a shade behind the blind or a different product altogether.

Learn more

Wood Blinds in Pittsboro

Raised fully, a 2.5 inch wood blind stacks into a deeper band than a 2 inch does. On a short Pittsboro window that band can cover the top several inches of glass, so either the slat comes down a size or the headrail doesn't go inside the opening at all.

Learn more

Vertical Blinds in Pittsboro

A patio door gets measured for the finished opening plus clearance at the floor. Vanes that touch the carpet drag, and a curled tip doesn't straighten out. We set the height so they clear by a small margin, and we check the Pittsboro floor level at both ends of the track.

Learn more

Aluminum Mini Blinds in Pittsboro

Laundry rooms and garage windows. Anywhere in a Pittsboro house where you want the light controlled and you don't want to think about the treatment again, the 1 inch aluminum slat is the cheapest honest answer we can give you.

Learn more

Roller Shades in Pittsboro

Fabric color changes what the room looks like at four in the afternoon. A dark face gives a crisper view out and a dimmer room. A light face bounces more heat outside and more glare inside. Either one slows fading on a Pittsboro floor, and neither one's going to stop it.

Learn more

Solar Shades in Pittsboro

Dust collects in the open weave, which is the whole point of the fabric and also its maintenance problem. A vacuum brush on low pulls it out. Don't soak a screen: the yarns hold water and the shade dries with a visible line across a Pittsboro sunroom window.

Learn more

Cellular Shades in Pittsboro

Two things nobody discloses. Cell fabric creases if it gets crushed and the crease doesn't come out, and the cord holes on a corded shade pass pinpoints of light down the middle. Neither one ends the shade, and both are better known before a Pittsboro order.

Learn more

Zebra Shades in Pittsboro

Chain and clutch, same as a roller, with a tensioner anchored into the frame. A cassette hides the roll and finishes the top edge of the Pittsboro window, and it's worth checking whether your trim has the depth for one before the order goes in.

Learn more

Roman Shades in Pittsboro

Custom fabric treatments nationally run roughly $300 to $4,000 per window depending on the cloth and the size. A Roman in a mid-priced fabric on a standard Pittsboro window sits well under the top of that range. Local installed pricing isn't published anywhere.

Learn more

Woven Wood Shades in Pittsboro

This is the product where a later add-on genuinely can't be matched. Grasses come from harvests rather than dye vats, so a shade ordered next year for the same Pittsboro room will differ in tone and texture. Order every window in the room together, without exception.

Learn more

Blackout Shades in Pittsboro

Tall blackout shades leak more, not less. Lutron notes larger light gaps past 120 inches or a four-to-one height-to-width ratio. A two-story Pittsboro stairwell or a tall bedroom window is where channels aren't an upgrade any more, they're the requirement.

Learn more

Plantation Shutters in Pittsboro

Shutters take the long end of a two to five week custom lead time, because they're built as a frame and panels for one specific Pittsboro opening. Paint batches also shift, so a whole house ordered at once matches better than a house ordered room by room.

Learn more

Cafe Shutters in Pittsboro

Winter is when the uncovered top half shows up as cold air rolling down the glass and across the room. Cafe shutters don't do anything about that. If a Pittsboro room is uncomfortable in January, we'd add a cellular shade above rather than pretend the shutter solves it.

Learn more

Motorized Shades in Pittsboro

RF, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread and Matter each move a signal differently through masonry and a finished lower level. Range gets planned before hardware ships, because a repeater added after the fact in a Pittsboro house is a return trip you shouldn't have to pay for.

Learn more

Custom Drapery in Pittsboro

In January the Indianapolis normal low sits near 20.9F, and the cold you feel by a window at night is mostly air sliding down the glass. A heavy lined panel that touches the floor slows that drift in a Pittsboro room, and a short panel doesn't.

Learn more

Valances & Top Treatments in Pittsboro

Swags and cascades are not automatically dated, but they're specific. They belong on tall formal Pittsboro rooms with deep trim and real ceiling height, and they look wrong on a builder opening with narrow casing. We'll tell you which one you've got.

Learn more

Exterior Solar Shades in Pittsboro

Loose-hanging exterior fabric flaps and eventually frays. Side channels or a cable guide hold the edges under tension so a Pittsboro shade stays flat in a breeze, and that hardware's usually the difference between a product that lasts and one you replace.

Learn more

Retractable Awnings in Pittsboro

An awning that stays out in a storm is a repair bill, and it isn't a feature. Wind gets under the fabric and torques the arms, so every Pittsboro install comes with a retract habit, and motorized units get a wind sensor wired in rather than offered as an extra.

Learn more

Commercial Window Treatments in Pittsboro

Lead time scales with quantity. Custom fabrication runs two to five weeks at typical residential volume, and a large Pittsboro order occupies production longer than that, so a realistic construction schedule builds the shade package in as a long-lead item rather than a finish detail nobody's tracking.

Learn more

Skylight Shades in Pittsboro

Fabric held under constant tension is under load every day of its life. That's why the channel hardware and the bottom rail matter more here than the weave does, and why we'd steer a Pittsboro client toward a system built for overhead use rather than a wall shade adapted upward.

Learn more

Sliding Glass Door Blinds in Pittsboro

If a Pittsboro patio door is the main path to the yard and gets used constantly, skip the delicate options. Fabric that shows a handprint or a treatment that has to be nudged aside will be a source of irritation, and we'd rather tell you now.

Learn more

Panel Track Blinds in Pittsboro

This is the product built for spans that defeat other treatments. A twelve foot Pittsboro slider or a run of windows across a great room takes panel track without needing a split, and you'll operate the whole opening with one hand on a single baton.

Learn more

Sheer Shades in Pittsboro

These belong on the front of the house. A Pittsboro living room facing the sidewalk gets to look open and furnished from inside while the street sees soft fabric instead of your sofa, which is exactly the problem a plain roller doesn't solve.

Learn more

Pleated Shades in Pittsboro

National pricing puts stock shades between roughly $60 and $600 per window while custom work runs $250 to $2,600, and pleated sits toward the friendlier end of custom, which isn't nothing. For a Pittsboro house with a lot of secondary windows, that gap is what makes covering all of them possible.

Learn more

Bamboo Shades in Pittsboro

A solar shade keeps a sharp view and cuts heat with a stated openness factor. A bamboo shade doesn't do either of those with any precision, and it looks far better not doing them. If a Pittsboro window is fighting real afternoon glare, buy the solar shade and put the weave somewhere else.

Learn more

Dual Shades in Pittsboro

Sunlight works on the sheer bands hardest, since they're the thinnest part of the fabric. NFRC puts UV at 40 to 60 percent of fading damage, so a Pittsboro south window will show wear in the sheer sections before the opaque bands change at all.

Learn more

Top-Down Bottom-Up Shades in Pittsboro

If nobody in the house will bother adjusting two rails, buy the standard version and spend the difference on fabric. We'd rather ask that question at the Pittsboro measure than sell a feature that ends up parked in one position for the next ten years.

Learn more

Cordless Blinds in Pittsboro

Between late May and the third week of September central Indiana stays muggy, and a real wood slat in a Pittsboro bath or laundry will drink that up and cup. Cordless faux wood keeps the same clean lift line right through the season because a PVC core doesn't care about humidity.

Learn more

Hardwood Shutters in Pittsboro

Indiana licenses no one for this trade, so the written agreement is your protection. IC 24-5-11 requires residential work over $150 to carry a written contract naming the scope, the dates, the total and the product being installed. A Pittsboro shutter order gets exactly that, and we're insured and bonded.

Learn more

Composite Shutters in Pittsboro

Composite shutters use an engineered core under a wrapped finish, so the panel doesn't take on moisture the way milled wood does. In a Pittsboro house that means the same shutter can go in the hall bath and the front room without one of them working loose by August.

Learn more

Smart Home Shade Integration in Pittsboro

A sun sensor is worth it on one or two exposures, not on all of them. West glass in Pittsboro takes the afternoon load from May into September, and a sensor that drops those shades before the room heats is doing real work. North-facing openings don't need the hardware.

Learn more

Blind Repair & Restring in Pittsboro

Blinds fail in clusters in a busy house. The family room and the back door get cycled several times a day while the guest room blind hasn't been touched in years, so a Pittsboro service visit is a good moment to look at every high-traffic opening rather than only the one that quit.

Learn more

Shutter Repair in Pittsboro

Adding a panel to an existing set is the request we're most careful about. Even where the line is current, a new panel beside eight year old ones in a sunlit Pittsboro room reads brighter. We'll hold a sample against the existing set before you decide it's worth doing.

Learn more

Motorization Retrofit in Pittsboro

Protocol choice locks you in for years. Proprietary RF is simple and closed, Zigbee and Z-Wave plug into broader systems, and Thread with Matter is where cross-brand control is heading. A Pittsboro retrofit gets specified around what else is in the house rather than around what's newest.

Learn more

Outdoor Patio Shades in Pittsboro

Upkeep is mostly rinsing. Pollen in a central Indiana April and dust all summer settle into the weave, and a garden hose plus a soft brush keeps a Pittsboro mesh looking right. Debris in the bottom of a side track is the other thing that's worth clearing seasonally.

Learn more

Office Window Treatments in Pittsboro

Manual chain systems still make sense in small suites. A Pittsboro office with a dozen openings and one exposure doesn't need motors, a hub or a control scheme, and a chain with a properly anchored tensioner costs a fraction of the automated version while doing the same work.

Learn more

Healthcare Window Treatments in Pittsboro

Energy performance is a product attribute and should be cited that way. DOE and ORNL testing found cellular shades saved up to 20 percent heating energy against a bare window, which is relevant on a Pittsboro facility with a large perimeter and rooms people can't simply leave.

Learn more

Multifamily Window Treatments in Pittsboro

Multifamily work isn't governed by the Indiana Home Improvement Contract Act, which applies to residential homeowners. A Pittsboro property runs on a contract or purchase order with a written scope, and since Indiana licenses nobody in this trade, insurance and bonding are what actually stand behind the work.

About Us

Local Expertise, Real Results

A factory deduction of one sixteenth of an inch per side sounds like nothing until you set it against a 1990s Pittsboro opening that has moved a quarter inch across twenty five years of settlement. The deduction is fixed and the opening isn't, so a three point measure is how we find out which one you're holding.

Pittsboro Window Treatments works across Pittsboro and Hendricks County with homeowners, property managers and small commercial clients. What each of them needs is different. Owners want the room to work. Managers want hardware that's cheap to repair. Commercial clients want consistency across forty identical openings and a fabric that meets the specification for the space.

We work Pittsboro the way its census table reads. There are zero housing units in this town built between 1940 and 1949, zero from 1970 to 1979 and zero from 1980 to 1989. The ten published bracket counts add up to exactly 1,441, which is the whole town, so those are real zeros rather than missing rows. The practical effect is that the shallow mid century opening that eats a measurer's day in older Indiana towns basically doesn't exist here. Pittsboro's stock is 393 houses from the 1990s, 485 from the 2000s, 305 from the 2010s and 106 since 2020. Four decades and one construction method, which hands you a set of problems belonging to new houses instead of old ones.

The other number that shapes how we work here is 98.2 percent. Pittsboro has 1,385 owner occupied housing units against 25 rented ones, so almost everyone we measure for owns the opening and expects to be looking at it in fifteen years. Median household income is $126,023, which is 1.57 times the metro figure of $80,239, while the median home value of $312,800 is only 1.07 times the metro median. Households here carry more room in the budget than the house value suggests, and they tend to spend it on the rooms they actually use rather than on all 22 openings in one order. So we'll quote in phases when that's what you want, and we write the dye lot down on the first order so the second one can match it.

Our Promise

Every opening gets a three point measure and a square check before we write a number, and you'll see the finished sizes in writing. If a 1990s Pittsboro opening has moved far enough that an inside mount is going to leak daylight down one side, we say so while we're standing there, and the outside mount price goes on the same sheet.

Why Pittsboro Chooses Us

Why Fit Matters More Than Fabric in Pittsboro

Serving Pittsboro and Hendricks County with quality materials, thorough inspections, and transparent pricing.

Three empty decades, one method

The ACS records zero Pittsboro housing units built from 1940 to 1949, zero from 1970 to 1979 and zero from 1980 to 1989. No shallow mid century openings, and no fifty year old hardware to work around. What that leaves is a settlement question rather than a variety question: 393 houses from the 1990s that have moved, and 106 built since 2020 that haven't moved yet. We quote those two groups differently, because they behave differently at the tape.

The light gap gets a number

Inside mounts leak daylight at both edges, and the honest version of that conversation belongs before the order rather than after it. Lutron publishes three quarters of an inch per side on its Roller 20/64, plus a standard factory deduction of one sixteenth per side, and anything over 120 inches tall or past a 4:1 height to width ratio widens those gaps further still. On a two story great room opening in a 2000s Pittsboro plan, that measurement is the whole argument between an inside mount and an outside mount with a light blocking pocket.

Written sizes and a written contract

The Indiana Home Improvement Contract Act, IC 24-5-11, covers residential work over $150 and calls for a written agreement carrying the scope, the dates and the total price. Yours sets down a finished width, a finished height, a mount type and a mounting depth against every opening in the house, ahead of the order. Indiana issues no state license for window treatments, so nobody in this trade holds one, whatever a yard sign in Hendricks County implies. We're insured and insured, and that's the thing actually worth checking.

What the county wouldn't give us

Hendricks County has no publicly reachable parcel service. Both gis.co.hendricks.in.us and maps.co.hendricks.in.us failed to resolve for us, and the statewide Indiana parcel layer carries no year built or subdivision field, so lot sizes, home counts, build out years and plat dates for Hidden Hills, Whispering Fields Estates, Quail Creek and Jefferson Park aren't things anybody can look up. We won't pretend otherwise or fill the hole with a guess. We bring a tape to your openings and record what's actually there.

Our Process

How Pittsboro Commercial Jobs Get Sequenced

Four steps, and the slow one is fabrication rather than anything we do at your house. Nothing in this trade is an emergency, and anybody promising a custom shade tomorrow is quietly selling you a stock size. Pittsboro's advantage is that 1,289 of its 1,441 houses were built one way, so once we know which decade you're in, the measure itself moves quickly.

Measure and square check

Three points on every opening, a diagonal check for square, and a logged mounting depth. In one of Pittsboro's 393 houses from the 1990s, this is where the quarter inch of movement turns up that decides inside mount against outside mount. In a 2020s Hidden Hills plan it usually confirms the opening is square, which is worth knowing too, because it means a tighter tolerance product will actually fit.

Written sizes before the order

You get finished width, finished height, mount type and mounting depth per opening, in writing, with the factory deduction already applied. That's also where the light gap is stated in inches instead of described in adjectives. The same sheet doubles as the written agreement IC 24-5-11 calls for on Indiana residential work over $150. Nothing reaches the factory until you've read your own numbers back to us.

Fabrication, 2 to 5 weeks

Custom means built to your sizes, so the wait is real: typically 2 to 5 weeks after you approve the finished dimensions. If you're covering 22 openings in a 2000s Pittsboro two story, we'd rather order the whole run together than in two batches, because fabric ordered months apart can arrive from a different dye lot and the difference shows on windows you see side by side.

Install and set the limits

Brackets go in, including a center support on any wide run, and each unit is leveled and operated before we pack up. Anything motorized has its travel limits set and its remote or hub paired on site. On a two story foyer in one of the 485 houses Pittsboro built in the 2000s that means ladder work, and it's in the price. The packaging leaves with us.

Common Causes

What we see most often on Pittsboro window treatments

Pittsboro homeowners typically call us about these scenarios.

A West Room Nobody Uses After Three

It's the most common call we get in Pittsboro. The living room is fine all morning and by mid-afternoon the sun is coming in almost horizontally, the television is unwatchable and the room is several degrees warmer than the rest of the house. People stop using it and assume that's simply how the house is. A solar shade at the right openness usually gives the room back.

A Company That Stopped Answering

Shades were installed by somebody who has since moved on, a motor has failed and there's no record of what was bought. We can often identify a line from the headrail stamp and source parts. Sometimes we cannot, and that's a real cost of buying from a company that won't be around.

Drapery Left Short By New Flooring

The floor got raised by an inch and now the panels hang above it looking like a mistake. Hemming to the finished floor height isn't something you can fix after the fact without recutting. It is a timing problem, and it's the reason we ask about renovation plans before measuring.

A Shade That Rubs And Has Worn

The opening narrows toward the bottom, the shade was measured at the top only, and now one edge of the fabric is fraying where it has been dragging for two years. Three widths at three heights prevents this entirely. Once the fabric is worn, it's a rebuild rather than an adjustment.

Stock Shades That Did Not Fit

Somebody measured the trim instead of the opening, bought four shades from a big box and found they were an inch too wide. There's a pile of them in the garage. That single mistake is behind a lot of our first calls in Pittsboro, and it's why we measure rather than taking your numbers.

A Sunroom That Is Unusable In July

Glass on three sides and a July average high near 85.2F means the room hits an unpleasant temperature by early afternoon and stays there. Interior shades help. The bigger change is stopping the sun outside on the worst elevation, and that's a conversation most people have never had. Treating the interior alone in that room often disappoints people who spent real money.

How We Work

Five Stages, In This Order

Custom window treatments are made to your openings, so the order matters more than it does in most trades. This is how every Pittsboro job runs.

1

Free In-Home Measure

Every opening gets three widths, three heights and a diagonal square check, because houses settle and an opening that is out of square is the difference between a shade that runs true and one that binds. Mounting depth gets read at the jamb. It all goes on paper before any product conversation starts.

2

Product and Fabric, In Your Own Light

Samples get looked at in the room they are going in, not under showroom lighting. This is where openness factor, inside versus outside mount, roll direction and material get decided, and where we tell you the light gap you are going to live with.

3

Written Scope and Contract

Opening by opening, with the mount type, the light gap, the operation and the total price in writing. Indiana requires a written contract on residential work over $150 under IC 24-5-11, and we would write one anyway.

4

Custom Fabrication

Your sizes go to the workroom. Two to five weeks is typical depending on product and finish, longer on specialty shapes and motorized configurations. You get the real date at the measure rather than a range.

5

Install and Walkthrough

Brackets anchored for the substrate they are going into, everything checked level and square, motor travel limits set and scenes built with you standing there. Then we show you how it all works and take the packaging with us.

"My plantation shutters are beautiful. Working with the Window Valet was a wonderful experience from the sales estimate to the installation. Erica, my sales rep, was very patient as I had to delay installation twice. Once I was available, the installation was very timely. Handy, my installer, did excellent work. He showed me how they work and advised me on how to clean them in the future. Very thorough!"

"I had manual and automatic shades installed back in 2016. I was pleased with the sales and install process back then. I had some maintenance done today and was very pleased with the technician, Handy. A part that had been replaced twice before on one troublesome automatic shade was proactively replaced this time with an upgraded part at no cost. I was very pleased that the Window Valet stands behind their products."

"I am a Real Estate agent and I am very picky on what vendors I refer to my clients. I always highly recommend Window Valet for anyone needing to have blinds installed in their home. They did my own home for me as well. Justin is great to work with and will walk you through all your choices and help you with understanding all the products they have at your disposal."

"The owner was made aware that we needed a quote sooner than the appointment we originally were scheduled. On that same day he took the time to meet with us right away and gave us the best quote possible for our 3,000 square foot home. Our installer, Handy, was on time, polite, informative with our motorized shades, and completed the installation within 2 hours."

Common Questions

Straight Answers for Pittsboro Shoppers

Straight answers to the questions Pittsboro homeowners ask most.

No, and the difference isn't trim. The Legacy Series lists at $349,000 to $406,000 and the Exclusives at $413,000 to $466,000, which is $64,000 apart at the bottom of the bands and $60,000 apart at the top, with no overlap between them. At the town's average of $179 per square foot that works out to a different size class, roughly 2,000 to 2,300 square feet against roughly 2,300 to 2,600. Treat those square footages as arithmetic off two published figures, not as plan sizes, because no builder sheet was available to us. In openings it lands at about 17 to 24 on a Legacy plan and 20 to 28 on an Exclusives plan, with the taller glass more likely on the Exclusives side. One subdivision sign, two window schedules.
No, but you should know what you're buying. A house finished this year measures square today, and the first two or three years of settlement are still ahead of it. That's fine for an inside mount with any reasonable reveal. It matters for anything with a tight tolerance, like a shutter in an L-frame or a blackout shade running in side channels, where a sixteenth of movement becomes visible. We record the three point measure and the square check so you have a written baseline to compare against later. For contrast, the 393 houses Pittsboro built in the 1990s have twenty five to thirty five years of Hendricks County soil under them, and those are the ones where head and sill often disagree.
Because the openings are consistent and the tolerances are not. Consistent depth and a clean reveal make the mount decision easy; they tell you nothing about finished width. The standard factory deduction is one sixteenth of an inch per side, and Lutron publishes an inside mount light gap of three quarters of an inch per side on the Roller 20/64. Both of those assume a square opening. Two Pittsboro houses on the same street, off the same plan set eighteen months apart, can differ by a quarter inch across a great room opening, and one of them went up during a wet winter. Measuring one opening and copying it to the other twenty one is how you end up with twenty one shades that almost fit.
Completely different, and there are only 47 of them. That's the ACS count of every Pittsboro housing unit built in 1939 or earlier, town wide, which is 3.3 percent of the place. Those houses carry real wood jambs, applied casing, old counterweight pockets and often a storm unit outboard, so usable inside mount depth can be a fraction of what a 2004 house hands you. Expect 12 to 20 openings with nothing repeating, heads and sills that disagree by a visible amount, and at least one opening that wants an outside mount landing on the casing rather than a fight with the reveal. Each one gets measured on its own terms instead of off a schedule.
For most of the town we found nothing that says so, and we want to be precise about what that means. No local historic preservation commission with Certificate of Appropriateness authority was verified for Pittsboro. Hendricks County holds 20 National Register properties and districts, eight of them in Danville, but the county listing table would not render for us, so we can't tell you that no Pittsboro listing exists. On subdivision rules, the county parcel services at gis.co.hendricks.in.us and maps.co.hendricks.in.us both failed to resolve, and we read no recorded declaration for Hidden Hills, Whispering Fields Estates or Jefferson Park. Read your own before ordering an exterior product. Interior blinds are rarely the thing anybody objects to.
Solar shades, and the real decision is openness factor rather than color. Quail Creek is wrapped by golf course, so your rear glass looks across open mown ground with no planted shade and no neighbor's wall standing in the way of a low sun. A 3 percent openness holds more of the view than a 5 and cuts more glare than a 10. Two other things are specific to you. An attached unit carries roughly 8 to 14 openings instead of the 18 to 28 in a detached Pittsboro house, because party walls hold no glass. And a condominium association controls the exterior envelope, so an exterior shade or a retractable awning, a national range of $1,000 to $6,000 installed, will most likely need approval. No recorded rule was available to us, so check yours.
Often repair, and we'll tell you honestly which one you're looking at. A restring, a cord lock swap, a new clutch, a chain tensioner or a bracket reset normally lands under the $250 per window floor of the national custom range, so trying is cheap. The catch is that Pittsboro has 393 houses from the 1990s and those headrails are now twenty five to thirty five years old. Parts availability is the variable, and on a discontinued vane carrier stem or an obsolete headrail profile the part simply isn't made anymore. We check that before quoting labor. We also won't replace a whole run to fix one window unless the dye lot on the fabric forces it, and we'll say plainly when it does.
It depends which decade you're in, and Pittsboro's decades are unusually clean. A 1990s two story here runs 16 to 24 openings, a 2000s two story 18 to 28, and a 2020s Craftsman or Colonial Revival elevation 18 to 26. An attached Quail Creek unit is 8 to 14. Against the national custom range of $250 to $2,600 per window, 22 openings comes to $5,500 through $57,200. Standard stock sizes at $60 to $600 would put the same house at $1,320 through $13,200 if stock sizes fit, which in a house carrying an arched transom and a two story foyer they generally do not. Those counts come from build era and elevation style, not from a survey of the town, and we'll confirm yours at the measure.
It changes the schedule more than the product. Craftsman elevations gang their windows into banded groups under broad eaves, then add gable end accent units. A wide opening usually faces the front porch as well, so you land at 18 to 26 openings with more of them ganged than a Colonial Revival elevation would give you. Ganging is a real decision. Separate shades in each opening give you clean individual operation and a vertical line of daylight between them, while one wide unit across the whole group needs a center support bracket and then moves as a single piece. We'll price it both ways. Note that the build era for Whispering Fields Estates isn't published anywhere we could reach, so we date the house at the measure.
For glass past pole reach, usually yes, and Pittsboro has plenty of it: 485 houses went up here in the 2000s, and a two story foyer or great room wall was standard vocabulary that decade. Motorized runs $300 to $1,500 per window installed as a national range. The cost nobody mentions at the sale is batteries. Hunter Douglas states PowerView battery life at about one year, so on a four unit foyer wall that's an annual errand with a ladder unless you go hardwired, which is an electrician's work and is not in our quote. We set travel limits and pair the remote or hub on site. For a bedroom window you can already touch, a cordless lift does the same job for a lot less.
It can be, and plenty of Pittsboro owners decide not to. Arched and elliptical transoms over the front facing window are standard on the 1990s and 2000s stock here, which is 878 houses across those two decades. Covering one means a template rather than a measure, because a tape can't honestly capture the curve, and the result is normally a fixed unit: a sunburst shutter or a shaped fabric panel that doesn't operate at all. If glare is your actual problem, a room darkening shade on the rectangular window below usually solves it, since the transom is small and sits high. If privacy is the problem, the transom is generally above sightline already.
Established in Pittsboro means something different than it does elsewhere. This town put up 485 housing units in the 2000s, 305 in the 2010s and exactly zero in the 1980s, so an established Pittsboro street is usually about twenty years old rather than fifty. Jefferson Park is described as an established residential area with modern layouts, and its build era isn't published anywhere we could reach. Practically, expect 16 to 24 openings and the town's standard condition, a drywall return with no applied casing and generous depth. If it turns out to be 1990s stock, it belongs to the 393 units from the decade most likely to have moved, and the square check on the diagonals will show that within a minute.
Because an honest one doesn't exist. We looked for published window treatment pricing for Pittsboro and found none, so every figure on this site is a national range and it's labeled that way: custom $250 to $2,600 per window, interior shutters $175 to $800, motorized $300 to $1,500 installed, drapery $300 to $4,000, exterior awnings $1,000 to $6,000 installed, and standard stock shades $60 to $600. Your number comes out of your own openings, the mount type each one takes, the fabric you pick and how many you do at once. What you do get in writing is the contract the Indiana Home Improvement Contract Act requires, IC 24-5-11, on residential work over $150. Indiana issues no license for this trade, so nobody holds one. We're insured and insured.
One problem, and it's worth planning around. Fabric is dyed in lots, and a run ordered a year later can come back a shade off the first one. On the main floor of a Pittsboro two story that usually doesn't matter, because nobody sees a bedroom shade and a great room shade at the same time. It matters a lot on a two story foyer, where an upstairs window sits directly above a downstairs one in a single sightline. Pittsboro is 98.2 percent owner occupied, 1,385 houses against 25 rented, so people here stay put and phase work across years more than most towns do. Tell us the plan at the first measure and we'll either order the sightline windows together or steer you to a fabric that holds across lots.
Both a front and a side, which catches people out. Main Street is US 136, and it runs on a diagonal: eighteen miles southeast to downtown Indianapolis and ten miles northwest to Jamestown. Houses on the original 1834 plat sit on that alignment, so they present a northeast or a southwest face instead of a clean north, south, east or west one. Late sun then rakes across a front elevation and one side elevation together, rather than hammering a single west wall the way it does in a town platted on a cardinal grid. For shading, that usually means two elevations want the same treatment instead of one, and it changes which rooms need the tighter openness factor.
Blackout fabric on its own won't. An inside mounted shade leaves daylight down both sides, and Lutron publishes three quarters of an inch per side on the Roller 20/64, so a blackout roller in a bedroom still glows at the edges at six in the morning in June. Real darkness needs side channels and a light blocking pocket at the head, or an outside mount that overlaps the opening by a couple of inches on each side. Pittsboro's median age is 33.5 and the town added 1,228 people between the 2010 census and the current ACS estimate, so kids' rooms come up here constantly. On operation, ask for a cordless lift. ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022 is the product standard that governs this, and accessible inner cords are a substantial product hazard under 16 CFR 1120.3.
Indiana Climate

Indiana Weather Affects Window Treatments Year Round

Indiana sees some of the most varied weather in the country. Pittsboro homeowners live in IECC climate zone 5A, which carries a real cooling load in summer and a real heating load in winter. July averages a high near 85F, January averages a high near 36F with lows near 21F, and the muggy season runs from late May into late September. That is why the same window can be the hottest room in the house in July and the coldest in January.

Zone 5A pulls in both directions

You'll buy one product and use it twice a year. In July, with an average high of 85.2F, a solar shade at 3 or 5 percent openness cuts the direct load and keeps the view. In January, with an average low of 20.9F, a cellular shade does something else entirely: DOE and Oak Ridge testing recorded up to 20 percent heating energy saved and up to 15 percent of total heating and cooling energy against a bare window. That's a product test result, not a dollar figure.

A canopy no older than the houses

Pittsboro put up 485 houses in the 2000s and 305 in the 2010s, all of it on open farm ground, and the trees went in with the houses. The 106 units built since 2020 still have bare lots. At the window that means unfiltered afternoon sun on west and south glass with nothing overhead to soften it, which is the condition where openness factor matters far more than fabric color. NFRC attributes 40 to 60 percent of fading to UV, so a shade slows fading here. It doesn't stop it.

Open fairway at Quail Creek

Quail Creek is the sharpest glare condition in town, and orientation isn't the reason. The community is wrapped by a golf course, so its rear glass looks across open mown ground with nothing built between that glass and a low sun. An attached unit there also carries roughly 8 to 14 openings against the 18 to 28 of a detached Pittsboro house, because two or three walls are party walls with no glass in them. Fewer openings, and harder light on every one.

May 25 to September 22

That's the muggy season, and it's why we won't sell hardwood over a Pittsboro kitchen sink or into a bath running a shower twice a day. Wood moves with humidity, and the movement shows up later as a bowed bottom rail or a slat that won't sit flat once the tilt wand closes it. Faux wood and composite hold their line through it. In a dry front room of a Whispering Fields Estates Craftsman, real wood is the better looking answer and it stays where you put it.

Choosing the Right Treatment for Pittsboro Rooms

An honest breakdown of the three we specify most often, and when each one is the right answer.

Cellular Shades

The one product in this trade with measured energy numbers behind it. Trapped air in the cells does the work, and DOE and ORNL testing found cellular shades saved up to 20 percent on heating energy and up to 15 percent on total heating and cooling against a bare window. In a Pittsboro house that matters in January and again in July, which is unusual for one product. Single cell suits most rooms, double cell where the glass is large or the room runs cold. Top-down bottom-up gets you daylight and privacy at the same time.

Both seasonsInsulating$$
Solar & Roller Shades

What you reach for when the complaint is afternoon sun. Solar fabrics come in stated openness factors, and that number is the whole decision: a lower openness cuts more glare and more of the view, a higher one keeps the view and cuts less. On a west or south Pittsboro window this is usually the honest answer rather than blackout, because blackout kills the room. Cassette or fascia hides the roll, and roll direction gets decided at the measure so the fabric does not foul a crank or a lock.

Glare controlKeeps the view$$$
Plantation Shutters

The one that stays with the house. Shutters are a finish rather than a covering, and they do not get replaced every few years. In Pittsboro the material choice is technical rather than a matter of taste: composite and poly in bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms and sunrooms, because a four month humid season followed by a dry heated winter will move real hardwood, and hardwood only where the room stays conditioned. Louver size, frame style and divider rail get decided standing at your window.

See What Each Fabric Does To The Light

Pick a fabric below and the window updates. It's a drawing rather than a photograph, so read it as a rough guide to what each family does in a Pittsboro room, and to what it doesn't do.

Fabric type

Sheer, 10 percent openness

Ten percent of the weave is open, so you keep the view and most of the daylight. Glare drops a little. After dark, once your lamps are on, someone outside can read shapes through it, which is why this belongs on a view window rather than a bedroom.

Openness factor is printed on the fabric card, so you can compare one line against another before you order anything.

Keeps the viewNot private after dark

Solar, 5 percent openness

The usual pick for a west window or a covered porch. You can still read the yard through it, glare comes down noticeably, and the fabric intercepts a good share of the sun before it reaches you at four in the afternoon.

It also cuts the UV landing on floors and furniture. NFRC puts UV at roughly 40 to 60 percent of fading damage, so this slows fading rather than stopping it.

View and glare controlSlows fading

Solar, 3 percent openness

A tighter weave. The room goes dimmer and the view drops back to an outline. Choose it where the sun is the problem and the view is second, which around here usually means a west wall in July. That's a common call on this side of Indianapolis.

Openness affects how much you see out, not how private you are. A 3 percent fabric still shows silhouettes at night.

View becomes an outlineStrong glare control

Solar, 1 percent openness

Close to a solid fabric with a little view left in it. This is the strongest glare control in the solar family.

The trade is that it darkens the room on a gray January day too. Indianapolis averages a January high near 36F and the light is flat, so think about how the room reads in both seasons before you commit.

Darkest solar optionDim on gray days

Light filtering

No view through it. Daylight comes through the face diffused, so the room stays bright without a hot spot across the television or the kitchen island. This is the default for living spaces.

It isn't private in reverse at night. With the lamps on and the sun down, silhouettes still show.

No view through itBright without the glare

Room darkening

A denser fabric, usually with a liner behind it. Most of the light coming through the face is gone.

Light still arrives around the edges on an inside mount, so a room darkening shade gives you a dim room rather than a dark one. If someone in the house sleeps during the day, say so at the measure and we'll scope it differently.

Dim, not darkEdges stay bright

Blackout

The fabric itself passes essentially no light. What you'll still see is the perimeter. Lutron publishes an inside-mount light gap of about 3/4 inch per side on its Roller 20 and 64 shades, along with a standard factory deduction of 1/16 inch per side, and shades over 120 inches tall or past a 4:1 height-to-width ratio get larger gaps than that.

So if you need a genuinely dark bedroom, that gap has to be dealt with on purpose, either with side channels or by going outside mount. We tell you which one your opening can carry while we're still standing in the room.

Dark facePerimeter needs a plan

Openness factor is a measured fabric spec, so you can compare it line to line. The category names are not measured. One maker's room darkening can behave like another maker's light filtering, which is why the sample books come to the measure and get opened in the room they're going in, at the hour that room has the problem.

Hidden Hills carries one subdivision sign and two price lists, and the Legacy Series is the half that sits across the town median. The published band runs $349,000 to $406,000 against a Pittsboro median list price of $389,999 and a median sale price of $384,999, which makes Legacy the volume product rather than the entry product. It's actively selling as of 2026 and building out at the same time as the Exclusives Series under the same name. At the town's average of $179 per square foot, that band implies roughly 1,950 to 2,270 square feet, and we treat that as arithmetic from two published figures rather than a builder's published range. Legacy houses are part of the 106 units Pittsboro has added since 2020, in a town whose median house already dates from 2004. For window work that means the cleanest openings anywhere in town, and openings that haven't finished settling. View Hidden Hills - Legacy Series window treatment details →
The Exclusives Series is the upper half of Hidden Hills, and it doesn't overlap the Legacy half at any point. The published band is $413,000 to $466,000 against Legacy's $349,000 to $406,000, a separation of $64,000 at the bottom of the two ranges and $60,000 at the top. Every Exclusives house sits above Pittsboro's median sale price of $384,999, which makes this the town's top new build tier. At the town's average of $179 per square foot the band implies roughly 2,310 to 2,600 square feet, about 320 square feet more house than a Legacy plan, and that figure is arithmetic rather than a published range. Both series are selling at once under one subdivision sign. The window schedules are not the same, and the difference is mostly vertical. View Hidden Hills - Exclusives Series window treatment details →
Whispering Fields Estates is the Pittsboro community defined by a style rather than by a price list. Listing sources identify it with Craftsman homes, and that's a genuinely different window vocabulary from the Colonial Revival and contemporary elevations selling at Hidden Hills. Craftsman fronts gang their windows: banded groupings of two or three units under a single head, broad eaves above them, an accent unit in the gable and a wide opening facing the front porch. More openings, more of them touching, fewer standalone rectangles. The Estates name and Pittsboro's semi rural edge suggest larger lots, though no dimension is published and we won't invent one. Agents describe it as a rare opportunity community, which is shorthand for low turnover. Nobody is releasing inventory here the way a builder is at Hidden Hills, so most of the work in Whispering Fields is a homeowner deciding to finally deal with a room. View Whispering Fields Estates window treatment details →
Quail Creek is the odd one out in Pittsboro, and that's exactly what makes it interesting. It's an attached, maintenance free condominium community in a town that is 98.2% owner occupied and otherwise entirely detached single family, with 1,385 owner occupied units against 25 rented across the whole town. The community is surrounded by a golf course, and that sourced fact drives everything about the light in these units. Party walls carry no glass at all, so a Quail Creek unit runs roughly 8 to 14 openings against the 18 to 28 of a detached two story house half a mile away. Fewer windows, more sun on each of them, and an association that controls the exterior envelope. No other Pittsboro community carries that combination, and no other one needs a different fabric specification for the same reason. View Quail Creek window treatment details →
Jefferson Park is described in listing sources as an established residential area with modern layouts, and in Pittsboro that phrase means something specific. This is a town where 54.8% of every housing unit was built between 2000 and 2019 and the median build year is 2004, so established here means roughly twenty years old rather than fifty. The name is the other clue. Jefferson Park is named for a person or a park instead of a landscape feature, which is not how Hidden Hills, Whispering Fields Estates or Quail Creek were named, and that convention usually points at an earlier platting generation. No build era, builder, home count, lot size or price band is published for it, and Hendricks County has no reachable parcel service to check. So this page is honest about what nobody knows and specific about what we establish at the measure. View Jefferson Park window treatment details →
The original plat was recorded on 9 December 1834 by Simon T. Hadley and William L. Matlock, who called the place Pittsborough after Hadley's home town in North Carolina. The town didn't incorporate until 6 April 1906, on a vote of 83 to 38, and sidewalks, street lights and water service followed that. What survives of all this is small. The ACS counts 47 housing units in the whole of Pittsboro built in 1939 or earlier, which is 3.3% of the town's 1,441 units, while Sheridan, a town of similar population, has 477. So the Main Street core is a stretch of street rather than a district, and it's the only place in Pittsboro where a window job involves real wood, weight pockets and openings that don't repeat. Everything else in town went up after 1990. View Original Town and the US 136 Main Street Core window treatment details →
